"This is the peace that you cannot buy... Finding a a way when you cannot see. Man will desist is he cannot pray. I need to find release" - Tems
Stephanie's experience of feeling physically and mentally exhausted and overwhelmed as a working mother is a common one shared by many women. Her realization that being in nature brought her peace and joy was a turning point for her and inspired her to create Black Girls Hike Too.
Stephanie recognized the importance of having a space where black women could connect with each other and with nature, and where they could prioritize their health and wellbeing. She saw the potential for hiking and outdoor activities to positively impact mental and physical health, and to build a supportive and empowering community for black women.
By creating Black Girls Hike Too, Stephanie is not only addressing her own wellbeing but also the wellbeing of other black women who may be experiencing similar challenges with their mental and physical health and feeling excluded from outdoor recreation. Her experience inspired her to create a space where black women could connect with nature and take care of themselves in a supportive community. Stephanie is motivated by her desire to help other black women to rediscover their joy and find a sense of peace in nature, just as she did.
I enjoy hiking because it gives me a chance to slow down, observe nature and listen to my body. BGHT! is a sisterhood of amazing, smart, talented, creative and beautiful women. We encourage each other to excel in all areas of life.
